The exhibition ‘Talking Textures’ presents a new, collaborative installation and existing works by the artists Noah Arends and Martyna Pekala. Together, the artists explored their shared interest in textures and the process of ‘layering’ in their art practices. They did this specifically through a digital dialogue that they held in a shared online document, adding thoughts and editing each other’s input to merge their ideas and get to know one another. All the cut-outs, filtering, add-ons and other additions helped in the creation of the central artwork in ‘Talking Textures’.

Cutting through half of the art space, a large, 4-piece curtain draws immediate attention upon entry. With its vivid colours and playful patterns, the textiles seem to radiate light and float just off the ground. The four elements all contain a mix of digital shapes and soft textures. As a whole, the artwork obscures the walls behind it, cutting off our view of what is usually the most central corner of the space. Through the act of hiding part of the art space, the art itself fully takes centre stage. Both through the vibrant textures of the textile, as through its placement the artwork grabs attention and dares the viewer to come close.
